Fire Hydrant Beautification

In Lapara, Weekend update on April 15, 2019 at 6:00 am

The FHB project is progressing wonderfully.  13 hydrants have been identified in town to get a new paint coat of paint.  Unfortunately, there should be about 16 hydrants for a town of this size.  Therefore, 3 new hydrants will need to be acquired.

Our hydrants are modeled after those found in Philadelphia.

We recently acquired another version of hydrant, but it’s radically different.  Nice materials though:

I’m not sure if I should replace a portion, all of them, or in just a certain area.  Look for the final vote in 2021.

Streetlights repositioned

In Lapara on April 12, 2019 at 6:00 am

Many years ago, the street lights were on the sidewalk, and not the middle of the road.

But then, the lights went down the middle of the street.

The Lapara Power and Light Company has spent the past few weeks moving 9 of the streetlamps off of the carriageway on Lapara Boulevard.

Town Weather Alert!

In Lapara on April 11, 2019 at 9:02 am

In spite of our major announcements regarding the new park and trail system, the national news has been reporting on a major snow event across the country.

Well, the trees may be blooming, but snow is accumulating!

The Lapara Transit Authority is running at full capacity to mitigate any delays.

We hope this will be cleaned up by next week.

The State Park System; Part II

In Lapara on April 11, 2019 at 6:00 am

From the park below, one can walk the highline and go high above the SLRR, Lapara Boulevard, Railroad Avenue, and…everything.

Also, Birdhouse Row has been moved and spans the trail.

This combination rail-trail and park is likely the most unique and immersive in all of Second Life.

2019 Lapara Restoration Project (LRP)

In Lapara on April 10, 2019 at 6:00 am

The major restoration project is underway!  The goal is to freshen the town up and not let too many area’s get too stale.  Major works are under way all over town, starting first, with Lapara, and working its way to the annual Astrate Infrastructure Improvement District Projects (AIIDP).

One of the projects is to restore the area between the old depot and the Lapara State Building.  The old depot is one of the three oldest buildings in town and originally had a park beside it.  Sometime in 2012/2013, this was removed.

And today.

Snapshot_201

The alley is no more, and the buildings have been moved.

This has created the most immersive park in Second Life.  Thanks to its position on the mainland, the mountain backdrop gives a sense of being in a valley, with any SLRR traffic visible, and plenty of trains in view.  There will not be more than a minute before any trains go by on one of two lines.  And looking south, the city looks infinite.

Snapshot_204

The old depot park is connected to a rail trail that goes up to the High Line Park, and you can walk to the other end of town (update to post tomorrow).

And a bonus image.  The many, many, many layers of infrastructure to build a mainland city that isn’t your typical one layer square grid.
